I am a big fan of Portal as it is, and when I saw this picture, I was quite impressed. The style is wonderful in my opinion, and is well executed. The darker color scheme is especially attractive, and gives a much more serious atmosphere to the pic than the normal Portal color scheme does. It is much better than the half-assed (not necessarily on DeviantART) art I've seen of Portal. The fact that you also drew an action pic instead of a simple pic of Chell stationary adds to my wow factor. I don't really have anything else to say, other than keep up the good work!
this picture really talks to me. the aerial part of the game is one of my favourite things to do, and the way Chell moves in the air really brings back all the good portal fun I've had. plus, the background looks great, all broken down and eaten by the plants, broken stuff everywhere... this is really good
I love the picture overall, the moment captured is great and the expression on her face is the best. She's frozen in this moment where she's not sure if she's about to go flying through a portal or smacking into a panel. The background is excelling, love all the cracks and bits of dirt you got in there. Though, for Chel herself, I have a few objections. Her feet are too small and she's too skinny. You got her breasts right, but her waist doesn't match them. Her feet especially bother me cause they look like Cinderella feet. But the overall drama of the picture does tend to overshadow these bits. Still, I'm the sort of person that's a big avocate for the meatier Chel.
I love the expression on her face. It's easy to think of her as emotionless when she never speaks and you never see her face - but some of those 'make portal whilst flying through the air' moments really would have been terrifying and stressful. Great job!
In terms of critique, her feet seem a little too small and her hair stream suggests plummeting but her clothing suggests more forward momentum.
Yeah- I was kind of laughing to myself about that one (I was gonna do a joke picture on how a 3d camera probably looks in there with her stoic and just moving.) It took my boyfriend telling me that I had hilarious facial expressions for me to realize I made this face every single jump lol
I see what you're saying-- and I do need to work on that now that you mention it--- make sure all the drag lines are parallel Good Catch!
In between Portal 1 and Portal 2, there was a comic, titled Lab Rat, about Doug Rattmann, a schizophrenic scientist that escaped/lived through Bring Your Daughter To Work Day. When Chell was unconscious, she was dragged back into Aperture by the Party Escort Bot, and placed in a long term relaxation chamber. When GLaDOS was destroyed, the main power for the facility, and the chamber's life support system were ruined. Rattmann restored power to the chamber in order to save Chell's life, but it put her into statis. Chell was originally down as 1,400-something on the list of test subjects, but Rattmann put her as subject number one, because of her "abnormal tenacity."
I, myself, am confused as to where Wheatley came from at the beginning of the game, after having been created for GLaDOS previously. (I hope you have finished the second game so I don't spoil anything.) And I figure the boots were given to her as a test subject because they're better than just the replacement knee springies.
BUT YEAH. It all makes sense if you look into it. Hope that helps. :P
